It’s 9:53 am on a Monday, and here I am, perched on my bed, pouring my heart out to you. My name is Nneoma Grace Agwu-Okoro, the second child among five siblings, and the only girl… I love my brothers to bits. You might not have heard of me, my blog/newsletter, Legal Bytes, or any of my creations, but that’s alright. One day, you will, it might even be today.
In 2022, I dared to dream big. Like the icons—Alex Hormozi, Dr. Mike, Aproko Doctor, Bailey Sarian—I yearned to establish a personal brand, to carve my name in the legal industry, particularly in Corporate & Tech Law. But it wasn’t until February 2023 that I took action. Procrastination and impostor syndrome had the better of me.
This journey has been an exercise in patience, perseverance, consistency, and long-term thinking. I began by creating and uploading daily TikTok videos, but I made a mistake. Ignorantly, I confined myself to TikTok alone, oblivious to the power of content repurposing. Seven grueling months later, I was burnt out. After a two-month hiatus, I started again. This time, I spread my wings wider, embracing YouTube Shorts, and creating Legal Bytes—a legal/law-related publication, focusing on business, technology, and intellectual property. The plan is to become active on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Substack, plus other avenues as they open up.
But the struggle persists. It’s been one year of creating content and I am not content, because I am not seeing any worthwhile results. My total following and engagements across these platforms are still in the hundreds, the income I’ve earned so far is zero, and I contemplate quitting, at least twice a day. When I think about my never-ending to-do list, I get overwhelmed and procrastinate the tasks, then feel guilty. Things in my life don’t seem to be changing. I know I am making progress with each article I publish, and each social media post I create, but that progress isn’t quantifiable so some days, it feels like there is no progress.
Yet, a flicker of hope remains—I’ve pledged a decade to this pursuit, and I refuse to falter at the first hurdle. I will be a distinguished and exceptional Corporate & Tech Lawyer, amongst other business endeavors. I will crack this code and teach other young lawyers in Nigeria and abroad how to replicate it. Someone someday will see my content and contact me for paid services, collaborations, sponsorships, partnerships, etc. which will open the floodgates for others to do the same. I will find the sweet spot between the content I want to produce and the content my audience loves. I know my life will improve exponentially because of my actions today. I know these, yet, the journey tries to tell me otherwise.
I write these words with a trembling hand, unsure of their purpose. Perhaps it’s to bare my soul to you, to forge a bond of trust, or maybe to grant you a glimpse into the tumultuous labyrinth of my mind. Whatever the reason, I hope my story resonates with you, if only for a fleeting moment.
I can testify to your excellence, creativity and consistency. It can be challenging to keep going without quantifiable progress, but the success will definitely come with your diligent and consistent efforts.
Keep going, Grace. I'm rooting for you!
Thank you David for your kind words 💛
